There are more than 150 million street children in the world. Most have been driven from their homes by poverty, abuse, or neglect. The streets become their home and fellow street children become their family. They are the poorest of the poor--begging, stealing, scrounging through garbage to find food. They are dirty, hungry, and sick. They have been robbed of their childhood. They are unwanted outcasts most people simply ignore.

But together we can make a difference! You can be part of transforming these children's lives from hopelessness and desperation to hope, opportunity, and promise.

The Kitanda Project

Since 1993, Agape Children's Ministry has been rescuing boys from the streets of Kisumu, Kenya. Our ministry then introduces them to the redeeming love of Christ and rehavilitates them through counseling, education, and vocational training. Believing that the best place for children to be is in their community and culture, the final facet of our ministry is to work with families to reintegrate the boys back to their home whenever possible. One of the most exciting aspects of our work is the impact our boys are having for Christ when they return to their villages.

You can join us in this work by sponsoring a bed (the Swahili word for bed is kitanda), where one of these rescued boys now sleeps safely. We'll introduce you to the boy currently in the bed you sponsor and tell you how you can best pray for this boy. You can rejoice with us when that boy is able to go back home and we'll then introduce you to the newly rescued boy now sleeping in your bed.

As a Kitanda Project supporter, you'll be given an 11x17 inch display to help introduce your friends, youth group, or church members to the project. Your display will also include a set of prayer cards so others can join in "praying your boys home." When your boy is able to go back home, you'll receive an 8x10 inch photo of him with the words, "Prayed Home," to show how God is using your prayers as well as a new large display of the boy currently in your bed. Imagine a wall filled with pictures of boys your family or church has helped to "pray home!"

The monthly cost of caring for one of our boys is $200. Your support will enable us to continue our work to rescue, redeem, rehabilitate, and reintegrate street boys. Please join us!

Become a partner in the exciting work Agape Children's Ministry is doing to care for children in Kenya!

By the grace of God, and through the hard work of dedicated Kenyan staff, over 250 former street children have been safely reintegrated into their home villages and reconnected to their culture roots. Christ is being proclaimed in these villages and assistance is being offered to families to help insure that these children stay home and off the streets. By assisting with school fees, offering supplemental food, and providing other support, families can afford to keep their children home and away from the dangers of the streets.

In addition to the former street boys, nearly 75 community children, many from desperately poor homes, are receiving a Christ-centered education at the Agape Primary School - a privilege not normally known to children growing up in their situations. Uniforms, books, and up to two meals a day are provided to any child who needs it. The children are thriving!

Boys who have graduated from our primary school are being helped as they attend local high schools, work as apprentices, or continue their education through vocational training programs.

When you joine Partners for Hope for a minimum monthly donation of $30, your support will be used to continue this work and allow our ministry to grow as the Lord leads. Each month you'll receive a letter highlighting the story of one of the children Agape is ministering to, wuch as the story of a boy whose father fell to his knees in praise to God when our Reintegration Team brough him home. A true modern day "prodigal son" story we were blessed to be a part of. You'll also receive a sticker with a photo of that month's highlighted child to put on your Partners for Hope poster.
